NAHN Cafecito

The NAHN DEI Committee welcomes you to the Bi-Monthly Cafecito for nurses affected by anti-DEI legislation. A safe environment to engage peers to discuss critical issues related to anti-DEI legislation in higher education. This is a call to action to prepare, attract and sustain Hispanic/Latino faculty in academia and the field of nursing. This informal NAHN Cafecito chat is an open discussion with a focus on Hispanic/Latino nurses designed to provide a safe space for NAHN members ONLY to offer support and self-care practices, as well as provide a platform for the voice of faculty in states affected by legislation targeting DEI.

Dr. Lois Lopez is a Senior Manager of Academic Success at Chamberlain University and a passionate advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion in healthcare. As a first-generation Cuban-American, she recognized the significant underrepresentation of Hispanics in nursing relative to the population, which sparked her dedication to advancing equity for Latino healthcare professionals and all underserved communities.

This complimentary webinar is open to NAHN members ONLY. After attending Cumberland School of Law, Freddy Rubio founded Rubio Law Firm, which focuses on personal injury cases, including car wrecks, trucking accidents, wrongful deaths, and DUI-related incidents. He has also tried cases in criminal, family, and bankruptcy courts. Committed to client advocacy, Freddy ensures his clients understand the legal process, believing that preparation creates options.Freddy actively supports organizations such as HICA, Fiesta, Inc., and the Jefferson County Indigent Defense Commission. He served on the ACLU National Board, as legal counsel for Birmingham City Council and the City of Tarrant, and as an adjunct professor at Cumberland. Currently, he is a Bar Commissioner for the Alabama State Bar and serves on the board of Voices for Children of Alabama.

The NAHN audience is invited to attend the webinar "Navigating Pulse Oximetry: Understanding Impact in Diverse Populations," hosted by Medtronic!

Webinar Objectives:

  1. Understand pulse oximetry light-based technology and differences between different devices
  2. Discuss the impact of skin pigmentation on pulse oximetry readings.
  3. Recognize improper use of pulse oximetry sensors that can lead to less accurate readings.

Speaker: Matt Ybarra, MHA, RCP, RRT-NPS, C-NPT

Matt has been a Registered Respiratory Therapist for 25 years. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Clinical Service Management and a Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration from Texas Tech University. He holds the national Neonatal & Pediatric Specialist (NPS) and Certified Neonatal Pediatric Transport (C-NPT) credentials. Matt has dedicated a majority of work in the neonatal and pediatric critical transport section collaborating with several teams (e.g., Kaiser, HCA, Stanford Children’s). Matt also has served in numerous leadership roles (e.g., educator, manager, director) for several respiratory care departments in CA. Matt joined Medtronic in 2015 as clinical specialist for the Pacific Northwest area, in 2023 he was promoted to a Principal Key Account Clinical Specialist for the Western US (covering 18 States) working alongside R&D, marketing and local team on promoting awareness around patient monitoring.
