Who can apply?

Scholarship awards are presented to NAHN members enrolled in accredited LVN/LPN, associate, diploma, baccalaureate, and graduate nursing programs.

Selection of recipients is based on need, current academic standing, whether they are a United States citizen or legal resident of the United States and other criteria listed below.

Scholarship recipients are a select group of Hispanic nursing students who demonstrate the promise of making professional contributions to the nursing profession and who have the potential to serve as role models for other aspiring nursing students.

The number of scholarships offered each year depends upon available funding. Scholarships will be presented at NAHN’s Annual Conference, July 18-21 in Phoenix, AZ.

If you are pursuing studies related to pediatric nursing or graduate education with a goal of becoming a nursing educator, please indicate that you are applying for these specialized scholarships on your scholarship application. You may apply for a nursing scholarship and a specialized scholarship on the same application.

What are the selection criteria?

Criteria for the scholarship awards include:

• NAHN scholarship application form completed by the student and submitted by the deadline of April 1, 2017 at 5:00 p.m. ET.
• The application packet must include:
  • Two (2) letters of recommendation from two faculty members, outlining the applicant’s future professional contribution to the nursing profession and potential to act as a role model for other aspiring nursing students
  • An essay of 500 words or less (using Times New Roman font at 12-point size), written by the student, reflecting his or her life growing up, (including information about parents or guardians, and the type of work they did), as well as their qualifications and potential for leadership in nursing.
  • A resume including education levels, employment, earned certificates, awards, community service, special honors and any other pertinent information.
  • A one-page spread sheet that includes: a discussion of economic needs, an outline of monthly income and expenses, estimates of educational expenses and any other financial aid for the year received. Also include a copy of most recent W-2 form.
  • An official transcript from applicant’s college, university or nursing program.
  • Verification of membership in NAHN – must be a NAHN member for at least six months before the scholarship’s deadline)
  • Academic standing (minimum GPA of 3.0 preferred)

Other application details:

• Please do not staple application documents together
• NAHN professional members may apply for scholarships if attaining a higher degree
• No acting national board members or committee members are eligible for scholarships
• Attendance to the Scholarship Gala on July 21, 2017 is mandatory for receiving a scholarship award
