NAHN National Association of Hispanic Nurses® is a non-profit professional association committed to the promotion of the professionalism and dedication of Hispanic nurses by providing equal access to educational, professional, and economic opportunities for Hispanic nurses.

NAHN is also dedicated to the improvement of the quality of health and nursing care of Hispanic consumers.

Maria Tere Villot, BSN, RN was instrumental in founding the National Association of Hispanic Nurses Foundation in 2007.

As President elect Under Rudy Valenzuela presidency, she obtained a grant to have the first chapter president’s leadership retreat which NAHN provided financial support for all attendees.  Since then, this retreats have become a yearly event for the Presidents.

She was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico and graduated from Catholic University, Ponce, Puerto Rico where she obtained a BS in Science of Nursing and an Associate Degree from Community College of Philadelphia in 1979. He moved to the USA mainland in 1976.

She has been involved with the Hispanic community for the past 25 years and has received several awards and nominations, such as:

  • The Henrietta Villaescusa Award for Community Work
  • Leadership in Women’s Health at PVAMC
  • Nominated as Women of the Year Award
  • Nominated Nurse of the Year Award
  • Professional Healthcare Association of the Year
  • EEO Advisory Committee Award at VAMC
  • Hispanic Heritage Month Special Recognition Award
  • Kathy Reynold’s Award for Excellence in Mentorship

Among others, she has also participated as a member of the following committees:

  • Delaware Governor’s Advisory Council on Hispanic Affairs (GACHA)
  • Timothy Academy Executive Board
  • Delaware Hepatitis Association
  • Diabetes Association Philadelphia
