NAHN Awards & Scholarship Committee

The NAHN Awards and Scholarship Committee reviews nominees that are nominated by and from the membership and selects scholarship recipients. The Committee also presents nominees to the NAHN Board of Directors for the following awards' categories:

  • The Dr. Ildaura Murillo-Rohde Award for Academic Excellence;
  • The Henrietta Villaescusa Award for Community Service;
  • The Dr. Janie Menchaca Wilson Award for Outstanding Leadership;
  • The Sara Gomez Erlach Humanitarian Award; and
  • Hispanic Nurse of the Year.

The NAHN Awards and Scholarship Committee chairman is Mario Alfredo Martinez Chavez, MSN, FNP (Los Angeles).

NAHN By-laws Committee

The NAHN By-laws Committee receives, considers, and edits proposed amendment(s) to the By-laws submitted by the Board of Directors or a Chapter, provided that such proposed amendment(s) shall have been received by the By-laws Committee at any time prior to thirty (30) days prior of the Annual Meeting.

The Bylaws Committee is authorized to originate such proposed amendment(s) to the bylaws as the committee may deem appropriate or desirable and to ensure that the membership is notified of the proposed amendment(s), with committee recommendations, in accordance with Article XV of the By-laws.

The NAHN By-laws Committee chairwoman is Veronica Vital, PhD, RN (Phoenix).

NAHN Finance and Audit Committee

The role of the Finance and Audit Committee is primarily to provide financial oversight for the organization, including financial planning, financial reporting, and the creation and monitoring of internal controls.

The NAHN Finance and Audit Committee chairman is Armando Riera, MSN, RN, ARNP-BC (Miami).

NAHN Nominating Committee

The Nominating Committee recruits and prepares a slate of candidates, under strict, confidential protocols, to be elected at the Biennial Meeting; recruits one candidate for each office, except for the office of President, unless there is a vacancy in the office of President-Elect; obtains a statement of consent to serve and their qualifications for office; and no later than ninety (90) days prior to the Biennial Meeting, forwards the slate of candidates to the NAHN staff who places it on the website.

NAHN Policy Committee

The Policy Committee integrates NAHN's purpose with related public policy issues and address the challenges; develops position papers for discussion and action by the Board of Directors and the membership; seeks collaboration with the private, public, and governmental entities in matters of public health as they relate to Hispanics.

The NAHN Policy Committee chairwoman is G. Adriana Perez, PhD, RN, ANP-BC (Phoenix).

NAHN Education Committee (Ad Hoc)

The primary purpose of the NAHN Education Committee is to ensure that educational programs and resources offered support the educational needs of NAHN members, and are consistent with NAHN's vision and mission.

The Education Committee chairwoman is Helen Christina Ballestas, PhD, RN, ANP-BC (Long Island).

NAHN Leadership Council

The primary purpose of the NAHN Leadership Council is to promote and further the mission and vision of NAHN; support NAHN by providing outside expertise and advice to the Board of Directors; and increase funding capacity for the association.

The Leadership Council chairwoman is Anabell Castro-Thompson, MSN, RN, ANP-C (Phoenix).

NAHN Membership Committee

The Membership Committee purpose is to provide input and feed-back to the NAHN staff and to the board on what is happening within the membership, chapters and the Hispanic nursing community. It serves as a sounding board to the NAHN staff on issues like members' benefits and programs.

The Membership Committee chairwoman is Adrianna Nava, MSN, RN (Chicago).
