2016 NAHN Vote

Candidate for 2016-2018 NAHN Board Member:

María de los Ángeles Ordóñez, DNP, ARNP, GNP-BC

Relevant NAHN Experience:

In 2013, I attended NAHN's annual conference and was inspired by NAHN's mission of "Promoting Hispanic Nurses to Improve the Health of Our Communities." In 2014 I submitted an abstract that was accepted for oral presentation: "A Hispanic Memory and Wellness Day Center Program." Development and implementation of a Hispanic Memory & Wellness Day Program for persons suffering from Alzheimer's Disease and related dementias involved an interprofessional collaborative approach, reflecting FAU's College of Nursing's philosophy of caring as central to nursing practice, and capturing my purpose and passion: transforming practice through co-creating a healing environment for those we serve.

Platform Statement

I have the expertise, leadership, and passion necessary to successfully achieve the proposed work in collaboration with existing NAHN Board Members. I am the director of a nurse-led State-designated Memory Disorder Clinic and Assistant Professor of FAU's College of Nursing. I am engaged in practice, teaching, research and community outreach. I participate in several volunteer and professional Boards and welcome every opportunity to collaborate in projects that promote and include diversity. In addition to my passion for nursing as a discipline of knowledge and professional practice, I have uniquely captured my vocation to service and to healing through art in a poem I recently wrote: Dance of Caring, Dance of Love. Born in Nicaragua of Spaniard parents; growing in caring is my sacred heritage. I ask for the unique opportunity to serve as a member of the Board of Directors thus expanding and strengthening my commitment to NAHN's mission.
