Arlette Stevens

Relevant NAHN Experience:

My first experience with NAHN was by volunteering as a pre-nursing student at the Tucson, AZ 1997 National NAHN Conference. I became a NAHN member in 2005 after graduating as a Nurse Practitioner and presented on "Improving Organ Donation Rates Among US Latinos" at the National NAHN Conference in Phoenix. In 2005-2007, I served as the Tucson Vice-President. In 2006-2008, I was an appointed member of the Nominating Committee. In 2007-2009, was the Phoenix Chapter Secretary. In 2008-2009, I was an appointed member of the Scholarship and Awards Committee. I continue to be a Phoenix Chapter member while living in Tucson.

Platform Statement

My goal as a Board of Director is to collaborate with other Executive members in solidarity and uphold the Mission, Goals, and Value Statement within our strategic plans. I have an interest in becoming involved in the area of Public Policy along with other members, perhaps regarding education, prevention, and awareness of sexual assault, intimate partner violence, and human and sex trafficking which is more prominent than we realize. Apart from working as a Nurse Practitioner at the VA Medical Center, I have been a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) for a non-profit organization in southern Arizona since 2006. Almost daily, I realize there is a crucial need to be aware and not indifferent to this violence among our communities and have our public officials, health professionals who may overlook a patient's signs and symptoms, and the media become more educated as well.
